General description

Polyisobutylene (PIB) is an elastomer and plasticizer. It exhibits good gas permeability, thermal, oxidative and chemical stability. Films of PIB can be synthesized by RF sputtering, whereas branched PIB can be synthesized from 4-(1-hydroxy-1-methylethyl)styrene -co-styrene (HMESt-co-St) as inimer.

Application

PIB may be used to prepare polymers blends with isotactic polypropylene (iPP).

Organic-inorganic hybrid materials attract particular interest because of their excellent mechanical properties. Here, we report the synthesis of hybrid cryogels consisting of interpenetrated polyisobutylene and silica networks. The gels were prepared by cross-linking of butyl rubber in cyclohexane containing silica

This paper presents the synthesis and characterization of a polyisobutylene (PIB)-based nanostructured carbon-reinforced thermoplastic elastomer. This thermoplastic elastomer is based on a self-assembling block copolymer having a branched PIB core carrying -OH functional groups at each branch point, flanked by
