The solubility of this product in DMSO has not been tested. A 200 mM stock solution can be prepared using ethanol, methanol, and 2-propanol. It is known to have 100 mM solubility in DMSO. The product is insoluble in aqueous solutions. Stock solutions of PMSF in 100% isopropanol are stable for at least 9 months at 15 to 25 °C. Storing in a desiccator may be useful.

Descripción general
El fluoruro de fenilmetanosulfonilo (PMSF) es un inhibidor de las serín-proteasas muy utilizado, eficaz contra enzimas como la quimiotripsina, la trombina y la tripsina. El PMSF actúa como inhibidor mediante la sulfonación de los restos de hidroxilo de los residuos de serina en los sitios reactivos de las proteasas de serina.
Aplicación
El PMSF se utiliza a menudo en el tampón de lisis para contribuir a preservar las proteínas de interés durante el aislamiento de las proteínas y la preparación de las muestras inhibiendo las proteasas que, de otro modo, degradarían las proteínas después de la lisis celular o tisular. El PMSF es inestable en medios acuosos. Por consiguiente, las disoluciones madre de PMSF se preparan generalmente en disolventes orgánicos anhidros (por ejemplo etanol al 100 % o isopropanol anhidro) antes de su uso en medios acuosos.

La administración de PMSF produce analgesia no relacionada con su efecto anticolinesterásico y prolonga el efecto analgésico de la β-endorfina administrada centralmente.[5]
