Gene Information

human ... WASF1(8936)

General description

Wiskott–aldrich syndrome protein family member 1 (WAVE1) is encoded by the gene mapped to human chromosome 6q21-22. It is primarily expressed in brain and is characterized with a tripartite VCA (verprolin homology, cofilin homology and acidic) domain.

Immunogen

The antiserum was produced against synthesized peptide derived from human WAVE1.

Immunogen Range: 91-140

Application

Anti-WAVE1 antibody produced in rabbit has been used in immunoblotting.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Members of WASP-family verprolin-homologous protein (WAVE) family plays a vital role in actin polymerisation and cytoskeletal organisation, which are essential for various cellular processes, including cell shape changes, cytokinesis, cell motility and membrane traffic. WAVE1 regulates chemoresistance during autophagy. The encoded protein plays an essential role in oligodendrocyte morphogenesis and myelination. In addition, it is also implicated in regulation of spine morphogenesis. Overexpression of the gene leads to the development of prostate cancer.
