High performance, reliability, and reproducibility of HS-SPME in combination with GC/MS for the determination of VOCs in water was proven in an interlaboratory trial.   1. Which gauge is larger, 23 or 24?

    1 answer
    1. The gauge designation and actual size of needles follow an inverse relationship. Therefore, a 24 gauge needle is smaller than a 23 gauge needle. Needle gauge sizes also apply to the SPME needle used for sampling. While the original SPME fibers were manufactured with 24 gauge needles, it is highly recommended to use 23 gauge needles for all applications that involve an autosampler. The 23 gauge needles are well-suited for use with the Merlin Microseal septum system and other septum-less seals. However, it is advisable to avoid using 23 gauge needles with standard silicone septa, as they may cause coring of the septum.
