Protein inhibitor of Cdk2 kinase
Wee1 is a protein tyrosine kinase that phosphorylates Cdc2 on Tyr15 and hence inactivates the CDK1 and CDK2, which facilitates in the negative regulation of entry of cells into mitosis.[1] Increased level of wee1 stimulates Human Immunodeficiency Virus type 1 (HIV-1) Vpr induced cell cycle arrest at G2/M transition followed by apoptosis.[2]
