1,2-dipalmitoyl-sn-glycero-3-O-4′-[N,N,N-trimethyl(d9)]-homoserine (DGTS) is highly found in Chlorophyceae. It is a structural isomer of diacylglycerylhydroxymethyl-N,N,N-trimethyl-βalanine (DGTA) It is also known as betaine lipid in microalgae.[1]
Diacylglyceryltrimethylhomo-Ser (DGTS) is an abundant lipid in the membranes of many algae, lower plants, and fungi. It commonly has an inverse concentration relationship with phosphatidylcholine, thus seemingly capable of replacing this phospholipid in these organisms.
