General description

Ethyl Violet is an olive green colored powder and belongs to the class of triarylmethane dyes. It changes its color from yellow (pH 0.0) to blue (3.5).

Biochem/physiol Actions

Ethyl violet is a cationic triarylmethane dye that is the ethyl homolog of crystal violet. It is a general histological and pathological stain. Ethyl violet has been used to stain pancreatic tissue and elastin, in the detection of gram negative bacteria, and as a reagent for the extractive-spectrophotometric determination of anionic surfactants. Ethyl violet induces mitochondrial permeability. It has been used in the extraction and spectrophotometric determination of copper. Along with the anionic dye zincon, ethyl violet is used in counterion dye of proteins in SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis.

In this study, a xylan/PVA/TiO2 composite was prepared and used for the photocatalytic degradation of dyes in solution. Fourier-transform infrared, X-ray diffraction, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopic analyses confirmed that the xylan/PVA/TiO2 composite was successfully prepared. Furthermore, the composite was evaluated
