Gene Information

Arabidopsis thaliana ... ATMPK4(828151)

General description

Anti-AtMPK4 is produced in rabbit using as immunogen a synthetic peptide corresponding to the C-terminus of Arabidopsis thaliana MPK4 (Anti- mitogen-activated protein kinase-4), conjugated to KLH. In Arabidopsis thaliana, 20 genes (MPKs) encode putative plant MAPKs, which can be grouped into four or five classes according to sequence similarity. All plant mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPKs) are classified into the plant extracellular-regulated kinase (PERK) subfamily.
Mitogen-activated protein kinase-4 (MPK4) is expressed in the nucleus. In pre-mitotic and interphase cells, it is found in the cytoplasm.

Immunogen

synthetic peptide corresponding to the C-terminus of Arabidopsis thaliana MPK4 (amino acids 365-376). This sequence is specific to AtMPK4 (not found in the other 20 known AtMPK isoforms). It shares limited homology (50-60% identity, continuous epitope) to the AtMPK5 and AtMPK12 isoforms.

Application

Anti- mitogen-activated protein kinase-4 (AtMPK4) antibody produced in rabbit has been used for Western blotting.
Anti-AtMPK4 antibody has been used in
  • immunoblotting
  • immunoprecipitation
  • co-immunoprecipitation
  • western blotting

Biochem/physiol Actions

In Arabidopsis thaliana putative functions have been assigned to AtMPK3, AtMPK4, and AtMPK6, and all three mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPKs) have been linked to diverse stress responses, including oxidative stress signaling, pathogen defense, drought, high salt, cold, and touch. Arabidopsis MAPKs, Anti- mitogen-activated protein kinase-3 (AtMPK3), Anti- mitogen-activated protein kinase-4 (AtMPK4), and Anti- mitogen-activated protein kinase-6 (AtMPK6) are rapidly and transiently activated by stress responses, by activation of distinct signal transduction pathways, involving upstream MAPKKKs (e.g. AtANP1 and AtMEKK1) and MAPKKs including AtMKK1/2 and AtMKK4/5.
Mitogen-activated protein kinase-4 (MPK4) negatively modulates systemic-acquired resistance. It functions as a regulator of retrograde signaling for photosynthesis, growth and immune defenses. It also has a role in cytokinesis and microtubule organization.
