High density lipoprotein (HDL) serves as the transit agent for cholesterol away from blood, tissues, and organs of the body to the liver, where cholesterol breakdown occurs. This process ultimately helps to remove cholesterol from the arteries. Colloquially known as the "good cholesterol", HDL makes up 20%-30% of the total cholesterol in the body.

HDL has been posited to be an important mediator in reversing metabolic dysfunction and regressing atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. HDL is used in cardiovascular research and the development of potential therapeutic approaches to cardiovascular risk management.

  2. What is the concentration of HDL solution (SAE0054-10MG)?

    1. High-density lipoprotein (HDL) is sold based on its total cholesterol concentration, expressed in mg cholesterol per dL (100 mL) of solution. For example, if a 10 mg package is ordered and the cholesterol concentration from the certificate of analysis is 3,230 mg/dL, the product volume will be 0.31 mL. The calculation is as follows: (10 mg)/(3,230 mg/dL) = 0.0031 dL = 0.31 mL. The calculations will be the same for any amount ordered; however, the concentration will be lot-specific. The example above uses information from lot SLCG0104, where the volume is 0.31 mL.
