General description

Kinetin is a synthetic cytokinin, which functions as a plant growth regulator.[1]

Application

Kinetin is an adenine-type cytokinin phytohormone that is used in plant culture media such as Murashige & Skoog media in conjunction with auxins such as indole-3-acetic acid (IAA), Indole-3-butyric acid (IBA), 1-napthaleneacetic acid (NAA) or others to induce the fomation of callus and to regenerate plant tissues from callus.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Kinetin is a type of cytokinin that is a plant hormone that promotes cell division. It is a growth factor that exerts several anti-aging and antioxidant effects on cells and organs. It is found to protect, effectively, the rat spleen from aging, apoptosis, and atrophy.[2] It can help in inhibiting apoptosis, while promoting the proliferation of splenic lymphocyte, and effectively enhancing the immune power of the aging rats and slow down the aging process.[3] It is also useful for enhancing phytoextraction.[4]
