General description

Cyclodextrins (CD) are cyclic oligosaccharides composed of D-glucose units connected via α(1,4) glycosidic bonds. Common cyclodextrins contain six (α-CD); seven (β-CD) or eight (gamma-CD) D-glucose units. Cyclodextrins are sometimes derivatized through esterification at positions two, three and/or six.[1]

Application

Beta-cyclodextrin (β-Cyclodextrin) may be used in the development of biocompatible drug delivery vehicles and membrane constructs to improve compound solubility in aqueous environments. β-cyclodextrin polymer and its ester derivatives are used for the development and construction of biomaterials such as hydrogels, nanoassemblies and biomatricies.[2] β-cyclodextrin may be used for the development of biosensors.

  1. How can I determine the shelf life / expiration / retest date of this product?

    1. If this product has an expiration or retest date, it will be shown on the Certificate of Analysis (COA, CofA). If there is no retest or expiration date listed on the product's COA, we do not have suitable stability data to determine a shelf life. For these products, the only date on the COA will be the release date; a retest, expiration, or use-by-date will not be displayed.
      For all products, we recommend handling per defined conditions as printed in our product literature and website product descriptions. We recommend that products should be routinely inspected by customers to ensure they perform as expected.
      For products without retest or expiration dates, our standard warranty of 1 year from the date of shipment is applicable.

  2. How is shipping temperature determined? And how is it related to the product storage temperature?

    1. Products may be shipped at a different temperature than the recommended long-term storage temperature. If the product quality is sensitive to short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped on wet or dry-ice. If the product quality is NOT affected by short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped at ambient temperature.   3. Is the shown formula (scheme) of β-Cyclodextrin polymer accurate ? it indicates a macromolecule of precise molecular weight, i.e., 7 repeat units , each is a beta-cyclodextrin. The specification sheet indicates a dispersity in Mw

    1. The structure shown on the product detail page and the specification sheet for this product is a correct representation of the monomer used to make it. The monomer has an active epoxide group. This product is a polymer, with (potentially) a very large distribution of molecular weights. The average molecular weight and the molecular weight distribution could vary from lot-to-lot, but neither is determined on a lot-specific basis.
