General description

Porapak porous polymers are spherical beads with consistent particle size, porosity, and surface area that help to insure analytical precision and accuracy.

For more information about any of our adsorbents, please visit sigma-aldrich.com/adsorbents
Porous polymers are the most suitable adsorbent for applications based on the analysis of gases, acids, amines, organics of low carbon number and water.[1] They are best suited for gas chromatography and are basically copolymers of polydivinylbenzene (DVB) which are very porous in nature ranging from mesoporous to microporous.[2] Porapak Q is a porous polymer composed of ethylvinylbenzene and divinylbenzene mostly suitable for the separation of hydrocarbons, organic analytes in water, and oxides of nitrogen.[1]

Application

Porapak Q packed in a stainless steel GC column maybe used for oxidation reduction experiments for designing of appropriate surface sites for ruthenium-ceria catalysts supported on graphite by controlled preparation method.[3]

  5. What does the 50/80 stand for in the product description of Porapak™ Porous Polymer Adsorbent Q, Product 20330-U?

    1 answer
    1. The 50/80 is refering to the mesh size range of the actual Porapak Q particles.  The larger the mesh number the smaller the diameter of the bead.  In this case 50 refers to a diameter of 297 microns and 80 refers to a diameter of 177 microns.  Therefore, the particles in this product will range between 297 and 177 microns.
