General description

Anti-DARPP-32 Antibody detects endogenous levels of total DARPP-32 protein.
PPP1R1B (protein phosphatase 1 regulatory inhibitor subunit 1B)/DARPP32 (dopamine- and cAMP-regulated phosphoprotein of molecular weight 32 kDa) encodes two transcripts which are further translated into two DARPP-32 protein isoforms, full length (fl)-DARPP-32 and truncated (t)-DARPP. It is located on human chromosome 17q12.
The DARPP-32 (dopamine and cAMP-regulated neuronal phosphoprotein 2) gene is mapped to human chromosome 17q12. The gene is expressed predominantly in spiny neurons of the neostriatum and specifically localized in caudate, putamen, nucleus accumbens, cerebral and cerebellar cortex. The gene encodes two isoforms, full length (fl)-DARPP-32 and truncated (t)-DARPP. The lack of the first 36 residues at the N-terminal in t- DARPP marks the difference between the two isoforms. Anti-DARPP-32 Antibody detects endogenous levels of total DARPP-32 protein.

Immunogen

The antiserum was produced against synthesized peptide derived from human DARPP-32.

Immunogen Range: 41-90

Biochem/physiol Actions

DARPP-32 (dopamine and cAMP-regulated neuronal phosphoprotein 2) is a dopaminergic gene that influences dopamine receptor binding potential in the corpus striatum. The gene also regulates the availability of dopamine neurotransmitter, which is important for cognitive capacities. Therefore, variation in this gene affects category learning performance. (t)-DARPP takes part in the process of tumorigenesis by stimulating chemokine receptor 4 and also promoting cell proliferation. Elevated expression of the DARPP-32 gene in dorsolateral prefrontal neocortex and hippocampus is correlated with the development of schizophrenia and cognitive disorders. The encoded protein is a phosphorylation-dependent inhibitor. DARPP-32 is associated with the pathogenesis of gastric cancer and breast cancer with its anti-apoptotic property, and is found to promote angiogenesis.
PPP1R1B (protein phosphatase 1 regulatory inhibitor subunit 1B)/DARPP32 (dopamine- and cAMP-regulated phosphoprotein of molecular weight 32 kDa) is considered as an inhibitor of phosphate-1 (PP-1) protein. It is associated with working memory and emotion processing.
