Gene Information

human ... FGFR3(2261)

General description

Research area: Cancer

FGFR3 (fibroblast growth factor receptor 3) is a receptor tyrosine kinase (RTK) and belongs to the FGFR subfamily. This subfamily includes four members namely, FGFR1, FGFR2, FGFR3, and FGFR4. It contains a ligand-binding region in its exoplasmic domain, a single transmembrane region, and a tyrosine kinase domain in its intracellular domain.[1]FGFR3 has a strong affinity for canonical FGF ligands.

Biochem/physiol Actions

FGFR3 (fibroblast growth factor receptor 3) plays an essential role in the signaling pathways during embryogenesis and angiogenesis. [2] This gene is either mutated or up-regulated in multiple myeloma, cervical carcinoma [2] and nonmuscle-invasive urothelial carcinoma (UC) of the bladder.[3]Apart from this, certain mutations in FGFR3 are also known to be linked with skeletal disorders such as various forms of dwarfism. [2] FGFR3 also plays hepatoprotective function during liver damage. [4]

Physical form

Supplied in 50 mM Tris-HCl, pH 7.5, with 150 mM NaCl, 0.2 5mM DTT, 0.1 mM EGTA, 0.1 mM EDTA, 0.1 mM PMSF, and 25% glycerol.
