Products may be shipped at a different temperature than the recommended long-term storage temperature. If the product quality is sensitive to short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped on wet or dry-ice. If the product quality is NOT affected by short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped at ambient temperature. As shipping routes are configured for minimum transit times, shipping at ambient temperature helps control shipping costs for our customers. General description
Beyond its antimicrobial effects, Doxycycline Hyclate serves as an inhibitor of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), enzymes crucial for collagen breakdown in connective tissues. Studies on corneal erosion and rheumatoid arthritis showcase its significant reduction in MMP-9 and MMP-8 levels, respectively. This MMP-inhibiting property helps preserve collagen integrity, preventing excessive tissue degradation and supporting tissue repair.
In cell biology, Doxycycline Hyclate impacts smooth muscle cells, enhancing adhesion and influencing the reorganization of fibrillar collagen matrices. Its influence on apicoplast gene expression in Plasmodium falciparum, the malaria-causing parasite, adds a dimension of significance in infectious disease research. Additionally, the inhibition of tissue formation in rat studies contributes to its relevance in understanding tissue development.
Moreover, Doxycycline Hyclate holds potential in metabolomics research, considering its multi-faceted effects on various cellular processes. In the broader context of biochemical research, its versatile actions make it a valuable tool for investigating molecular mechanisms and signaling pathways.

How can I determine the shelf life / expiration / retest date of this product?
1 answer-
If this product has an expiration or retest date, it will be shown on the Certificate of Analysis (COA, CofA). If there is no retest or expiration date listed on the product's COA, we do not have suitable stability data to determine a shelf life. For these products, the only date on the COA will be the release date; a retest, expiration, or use-by-date will not be displayed.
For all products, we recommend handling per defined conditions as printed in our product literature and website product descriptions. We recommend that products should be routinely inspected by customers to ensure they perform as expected.
For products without retest or expiration dates, our standard warranty of 1 year from the date of shipment is applicable.

What is the expiration date of Doxycycline hyclate(powder, not solution) from the date of purchase?
1 answer-
This product is not assigned an expiration date. It is assigned a recommended retest date of approximately 3.5 years after the quality release date. A recommended retest date is the period of time during which the product is expected to remain within established stability specifications, provided that it has been stored under defined conditions. After the Retest Date, product samples should be examined to ensure that the product is still in compliance with the established specifications. For more information, you may access the "Product Dating Information" document under "ADDITIONAL USEFUL DOCUMENTS ABOUT OUR PRODUCTS" at the bottom of the Quality Services page with this link: https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/US/en/life-science/quality-and-regulatory-management/quality-services.

Once reconstituted in water, can Doxycycline hyclate be stored long-term at -20°C ?
1 answer-
Aqueous solutions of Doxycycline are light sensitive and should be used within 48 hours. The long term stability of aqueous solutions at -20°C has not been evaluated. However, the Doxycycline HCl Ready Made solution is prepared at 100 mg/ml in DMSO. This product is assigned a shelf life of 1 year and is stored at -20°C. See the links below to review the product datasheet for D9891, as well as a sample Certificate of Analysis for the Ready Made Solution, D3072.
