General description

The molecule consists of a linear chain of glucose units without any branching.

Application

β-1,3-Glucan from Euglena gracilis may be compared with other β-1,3-glucans and their derivatives to study mechanisms of protection of DNA from oxidative lesions. β-1,3-Glucan from Euglena gracilis may be used as a substrate to identify, differentiate and characterize glucanase(s).

Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) is the major component of the outer membrane of Gram-negative bacteria. This molecule can induce strong immune response and various biological effects. In mammals, TLR4 can recognize LPS and induce inflammatory response. However, the innate receptor in fish

Five types of macroalgae from the southern hemisphere were analysed for the presence of β-1,3/1,6-glucan and its immunostimulant properties. We were able to extract soluble β-1,3/1,6-D-glucan from Durvillaea antarctica (Chamisso) Hariot (DA). The morphology of the brown algae influenced extraction

Heat shock protein 90 (Hsp90) is a eukaryotic molecular chaperone. Its involvement in the resistance of Candida albicans to azole and echinocandin antifungals is well established. However, little is known about Hsp90's function in the filamentous fungal pathogen Aspergillus fumigatus.

The walls of infectious pathogens, which are essential for transmission, pathogenesis, and diagnosis, contain sugar polymers that are defining structural features, e.g., β-1,3-glucan and chitin in fungi, chitin in Entamoeba cysts, β-1,3-GalNAc in Giardia cysts, and peptidoglycans in bacteria. The
