Descripción general

Oleic acid is a mono-unsaturated omega-9 fatty acid created by dehydrogenation of stearic acid. It is then further dehydrogenated and elongated to create members of the n-9 family of fatty acids. Oleic acid is not an essential fatty acid (EFA); however, providing it to cells in culture reduces energy demand.
Oleic acid mediates complete oxidation of fatty acid in sirtuin1- proliferator-activated receptor γ coactivator−1α (SIRT1-PGC-1α) signalling pathway. Oleic acid shows anti-inflammatory properties related to atherosclerosis and insulin resistant state.[1] Oleic acid inhibits permeability in gap junctions and promotes glucose uptake in astrocytes. Oleic acid aids in neural cell proliferation by increasing glucose uptake and by protein kinase C (PKC) activation. Oleic acid is essential for axonal growth and neuronal clustering.[2]

Aplicación

Oleic acid has been used:
  • in fatty acid oxidation rate experiments in myotubes and in Sirt1 enzyme assay[1]
  • to determine quantitatively its effect on lipid droplets by optical diffraction tomography[3]
  • as a fatty acid source in the medium for primary hepatocyte culture[4]

Envase

Sealed ampule.

Precaución

Unsaturated fatty acids are subject to oxidation and peroxidation. Consider complexed fatty acid supplements.

Chronic inflammation is a fundamental aspect of metabolic disorders such as obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Cholesterol crystals are metabolic signals that trigger sterile inflammation in atherosclerosis, presumably by activating inflammasomes for IL-1β production. We found here that atherogenesis was

Questions

1–4 of 4 Questions
  1. Hello. I would like to know if it is necessary to sonicate the oleic acid before stimulation? what is the best solvent? Thank you!

    1 answer
    1. Ethanol is commonly used as a solvent for reconstitution of this product for cell culture applications. Although solubility in ethanol is not a tested specification for batch release, this product is known to dissolve in ethanol up to a concentration of 20 mg/mL. Sonication is not necessary for reconstitution in ethanol.

  2. What is the concentration of this oleic acid and what solvent do I need to make dilution

    1 answer
    1. This product is a neat or pure liquid and has not been diluted. This material has a density of 0.890 g/mL and a molecular weight of 282.46 g/mol. The minimum purity is 99%, thus the molarity will vary slightly from lot to lot. The molarity can range from 3.12 M (99%) to 3.15 M (100%).

  3. What is the concentration of this product-O1383-25G?

    1 answer
    1. The concentration of this product can be determined using the lot-specific purity reported in the Certificate of Analysis, as well as the density and compound molecular weight. This product has a density of 0.89 g/mL and a molecular weight of 282.46 g/mol. The minimum purity is 99%, thus the molarity will vary slightly from lot to lot. The molarity can range from 3.12 M (99%) to 3.15 M (100%).
