Descripción general

n-Butyllithium (n-BuLi) is an organolithium reagent commonly used as a strong base to form corresponding lithium salts by the deprotonation of nitrogen, oxygen, phosphorus, and carbon acids. Heterocyclic compounds, such as furans, thiophenes, oxazoles, pyrroles, etc, can be lithiated α to the ring heteroatom using n?BuLi. These lithiated salts reacting in situ with alkyl halides to obtain useful organic compounds by the formation of the C-C bond.[1]

Aplicación

n-BuLi can be used as a reagent for lithium-halogen exchange reactions. Synthesis of various other useful reagents such as lithium diisopropylamide (LDA) and diphenylphosphine is prepared by in situ reaction with n-BuLi [2][3]. In the polymerization of dienes, it can be employed as an initiator.[4]

Envase

The 25 mL Sure/Seal bottle is recommended as a single-use bottle. Repeated punctures will likely result in decreased performance of product.

    Arrived decomposed

Reagent arrived filled with solids. When customer support was contacted, they insisted the reagent is fine, despite the fact that butyl lithium is a liquid. Solids do not dissolve, nor should they be present at all. Customer support sent a certification which indicated the reagent was analyzed 3 years ago. Order from somewhere else.

    1. Response from MilliporeSigma:

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. A specialist is working on this case and will be in touch with you shortly.

Please be aware that there is a disclaimer on the certificate of analysis stating that a precipitate could form and how to re-dissolve it. We have determined that this product is stable long term when unopened as long as it is stored properly. This product is moisture sensitive and is supplied in a Sure/Seal with a septum. Repeated use could introduce moisture and decrease performance. Regardless of the quality release date, we warranty the product for one year from the date of shipment. Also, we offer two other products at lower concentrations in hexanes that would have a lower likelihood of precipitating: 230707 (2 M) and 186171 (1.6 M)
