Gene Information

human ... EPCAM(4072)

General description

DTT-reduced. rh EpCAMProtein migrates as poly peptide due to glycosylation. Gln24 is the predicted N-terminal.
Epithelial cell adhesion molecule (EpCAM) is a pan-epithelial differentiation antigen that is expressed on almost all carcinomas as 17-1A (mAb) antigen. The gene encoding EpCAM is localized on human chromosome 2p21.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Epithelial cell adhesion molecule (EpCAM) is intricately linked with the cadherin-catenin pathway and hence the fundamental WNT pathway responsible for intracellular signaling and polarity. The protein has several cellular functions, like epithelial-specific cell-adhesion, cell signaling, migration, proliferation and differentiation. It is expressed in most epithelial malignancies (like epithelial ovarian cancer) and was reported as a tumor marker or a candidate of molecular targeting therapy. EpCAM cross signaling with N-cadherin involves phosphoinositide-3-kinase (Pi3K), resulting in the abrogation of the cadherin adhesion complexes in epithelial cells.

Physical form

Lyophilized from 0.22 μm filtered solution in PBS, pH 7.4. Normally Mannitol or Trehalose is added as protectants before lyophilization.

Reconstitution

Centrifuge the vial prior to opening. Reconstitute in sterile PBS, pH 7.4 to a concentration of 50 μg/mL. Do not vortex. This solution can be stored at 2-8°C for up to 1 month. For extended storage, it is recommended to store at -20°C.
