The GRIN2A (glutamate ionotropic receptor NMDA (N-methyl-D-aspartate) type subunit 2A) gene is mapped to human chromosome 16p13.2. It codes for a transmembrane ligand-gated ion channel called N-methyl-D-aspartate glutamate receptor α2 subunit.
Immunogen
Fusion protein amino acids 75-325 (extracellular N-terminus) of rat GluN2A/NR2A
Biochem/physiol Actions
The GRIN2A (glutamate ionotropic receptor NMDA (N-methyl-D-aspartate) type subunit 2A) gene is associated with focal epilepsy and impaired speech. NMDA glutamate receptor α2 subunit is involved in neuron development, maintains synaptic plasticity and is associated with memory. GRIN2A is related to schizophrenia and Alzheimer′s disease. Mutations in GRIN2A gene upregulates NMDA action and might lead to melanoma tumors. NMDA participates in apoptosis and proliferation of cancer cells.
