Protein kinase C (PKC) ϲ is an isoenzyme, which belongs to the atypical class of protein kinase C family. PKCϲ is encoded by the gene mapped to human chromosome 1p36.33-p36.2. PKC ϲ is expressed in human eosinophils. This protein is characterized with a PB1 (Phox and Bem1) domain in the N-terminal, a pseudosubstrate (PS) sequence, a C1 domain (or phorbol esters/diacylglycerol binding domain) of a single Cys-rich zinc-finger motif, and a kinase domain in the C-terminal.
Immunogen
The antiserum was produced against synthesized peptide derived from human PKC zeta.
Immunogen Range: 526-575
Application
Anti-PKC ϲ, C-Terminal antibody produced in rabbit has been used in immunohistochemistry.[1]
Biochem/physiol Actions
Isoenzymes of protein kinase C (PKC) family play a vital role in downstream signaling and cell functions. PKC ϲ regulates adhesion and effector functions of human eosinophils stimulated with platelet-activating factor (PAF) or complement (C) 5a. PKC ϲ and PKC δ might act as a therapeutic target for decreasing eosinophilic inflammation in clinical conditions such as asthma. PKC ϲ is calcium–independent, and is activated by phospholipids including phosphatidic acid (PA), phosphatidylinositol triphosphates and ceramides. Experimental studies state that, PKC ϲ is involved in the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) cascade, transcriptional factor NF-κB (NF-κB) activation, ribosomal S6-protein kinase signaling, and cell polarity. PKC-ϲ mediates hypoxia-induced Na,K-ATPase endocytosis in the alveolar epithelial cells (AEC).4 PKC-ϲ functions as a potential biomarker for human prostate cancer.

Protein kinase (PK) C comprises a family of isoenzymes that play key roles in downstream signalling and cell functions. We studied PKC zeta participation in the effector functions of human eosinophils stimulated with platelet-activating factor (PAF) or complement (C) 5a.
The Drosophila apical photoreceptor membrane is defined by the presence of two distinct morphological regions, the microvilli-based rhabdomere and the stalk membrane. The subdivision of the apical membrane contributes to the geometrical positioning and the stereotypical morphology of the rhabdomeres
Protein kinase M zeta (PKM-ζ), a constitutively active N-terminal truncated form of PKC-ζ, has long been implicated in a cellular correlate of learning, long-term potentiation (LTP). Inhibition of PKM-ζ with zeta-inhibitory peptide (ZIP) has been shown in many brain structures
The zeta isotype of protein kinase C (PKCzeta) is a member of the atypical PKC subfamily and has been widely implicated in the regulation of cellular functions. Increasing evidence from studies using in vitro and in vivo systems points to

The constitutively active, atypical protein kinase C, protein kinase M-ζ (PKMζ), is exclusively expressed in the brain and its expression increases following exposure to drugs of abuse. However, the limitations of currently available tools have made it difficult to examine
