Duffy antigen/chemokine receptor (DARC) or atypical chemokine receptor 1 (ACKR1) is a membrane-bound protein. The gene encoding this chemokine receptor is localized on human chromosome 1q23.2.
Immunogen
DARC antibody was raised against a 16 amino acid peptide from near the carboxy terminus of human DARC.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Duffy antigen/chemokine receptor (DARC) or atypical chemokine receptor 1 (ACKR1) functions as an antigen of the Duffy (Fy) blood group system. It has a role in the infection of red blood cells (RBCs) by Plasmodium vivax and the lysis of RBCs by Staphylococcus aureus. The protein has been shown to be downregulated in colorectal cancer.

Vivax malaria has long been thought to be absent from sub-Saharan Africa owing to the high proportion of individuals lacking the Duffy antigen receptor for chemokines (DARC) in their erythrocytes. The interaction between P. vivax Duffy-binding protein (PvDBP) and DARC is
