Polymerase I and transcript release factor (PTRF), also known as “cavin-1,” is a small cytoplasmic protein, which interacts with caveolin-1 to assemble specialized membrane invaginations (or caveolae), in various types of cells. Caveolae house specific proteins and lipids and play a central role in cell signaling and endocytosis. PTRF may also play a role in metabolism. Mice lacking functional PTRF are affected by hyperinsulinemia and glucose intolerance. In addition, PTRF may play a role in prostate cancer.
Specificity
This antibody recognizes the Coiled Coil domain of PTRF/cavin-1.
Immunogen
KLH-conjugated linear peptide corresponding to the Coiled Coil domain of human PTRF/cavin-1.
Application
Anti-PTRF/cavin-1 Antibody detects level of PTRF/cavin-1 & has been published & validated for use in Western Blotting, IHC(P).
Immunohistochemistry Analysis: A 1:500 dilution from a representative lot detected PTRF/cavin-1 in mouse cardiac tissue and mouse alveoli tissue.
Quality
Evaluated by Western Blot in human lung tissue lysate.
Western Blot Analysis: 1 mg/mL of this antibody detected PTRF/cavin-1 in 10 mg of human lung tissue lysate.
Target description
~60 kDa, ~43 kDa observed. Three isoforms at 43 kDa, 33 kDa, and 23 kDa are known to exist. This protein was observed at ~60 kDa by an independent laboratory due to post-translational modification (Hill, M. M., et al. (2008). Cell. 132(1):113-124.).

Polymorphisms in the CAV1/2 gene loci impart increased risk for primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG). CAV1 encodes caveolin-1 (Cav1), which is required for biosynthesis of plasma membrane invaginations called caveolae. Cav1 knockout mice exhibit elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) and decreased outflow

Repetitive complete or incomplete pharyngeal collapses are leading to chronic intermittent hypoxia (CIH), a hallmark feature of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) syndrome responsible for many metabolic disorders. In humans, an association between OSA and insulin resistance has been found independently
CAV1 (caveolin 1, caveolae protein, 22kDa) is well known as a principal scaffolding protein of caveolae, a specialized plasma membrane structure. Relatively, the caveolae-independent function of CAV1 is less studied. Autophagy is a process known to involve various membrane structures
