Application

Sigma′s Cell Freezing Medium, Serum-free is a cryopreservation medium which does not contain DMSO or serum.
Cell Freezing Medium-Serum-free 1× has been used as a cryopreservation medium for somatic cell sampling and recovery (SCSR) exfoliated cells cultured in growth media and dihydrofolate reductase (DHFR)-deficient Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells grown in serum-free growth medium.[1]

Other Notes

Ready-to-use formula that does not contain dimethyl sulfoxide or serum.

  1. Hi there, can i use this C2639 Cell Freezing Medium-Serum-free 1× for freezing HEK293 and MCF7 cells? In addition, can i use it to freeze hESC and hiPSC?

    1. This Cell Freezing Medium-Serum-free 1× does not contain dimethyl sulfoxide or serum and may not be suitable for all cell types. It is recommended to follow manufacturers' guidelines or literature for cell freezing. For example:

      - Human kidney (embryonic) 293 cells, Cat. #85120602-1VL: 5% dimethyl sulfoxide and 95% fetal calf serum.
      - MCF7 cells: 95% complete growth medium and 5% dimethyl sulfoxide.
      - Simplicon™ Human iPS cells: pluripotent media with 10% dimethyl sulfoxide.
      - Human embryonic stem cells: base medium with fetalbovine serum and 10% dimethyl sulfoxide.

      For cryopreservation of human embryonic stem cells or induced pluripotent stem cells in serum-free conditions, PluriSTEM™ Freeze Medium (SCM134) is recommended.
