Aplicación

24(R/S),25-epoxycholesterol has been used as liver X receptor ligand in breast cancer cell lines.[1][2]

Acciones bioquímicas o fisiológicas

24(R/S),25-epoxycholesterol (24(R/S),25-EC) is a side chain substituted cholesterol. It is an effective activator of liver X receptor (LXR) transcription.[2] 24R and 24S epimers of epoxycholesterol inhibit cholesterol synthesis from 24,25-dihydrolanosterol.[3] The levels of 24(R/S),25-EC is elevated in gastric carcinoma and may also inhibit gastric tumor invasion.[4] 24(R/S),25-EC regulates gastric epithelial function and also may modulates the phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase - protein kinase B (PI3K/AKT) signaling.[5]

A healthy gastric mucosal epithelium exhibits tumor-suppressive properties. Gastric epithelial cell dysfunction contributes to gastric cancer development. Oxysterols provided from food or cholesterol oxidation in the gastric epithelium may be further sulfated by hydroxysteroid sulfotransferase 2B1 (SULT2B1), which is highly

The 24R and 24S epimers of the acetates of 24,25-epoxycholesterol and 24,25-epoxylanosterol have been prepared and purified by preparative normal phase high performance liquid chromatography. Neither pair of epimers could be differentiated by 1H NMR. However, the 13C NMR spectra

Gastric cancer (GC) is one of the most common cancers and is the second-leading cause of cancer-associated morbidity worldwide. Oxysterols are oxidized derivatives of cholesterol that may be important in many biological processes, but the levels and roles of oxysterols

Low fruit and vegetable consumption and high saturated fat consumption causes elevated circulating cholesterol and are breast cancer risk factors. During cholesterol metabolism, oxysterols form that bind and activate the liver X receptors (LXRs). Oxysterols halt breast cancer cell proliferation

Interventions that alter cholesterol have differential impacts on hormone receptor positive- and negative-breast cancer risk and prognosis. This implies differential regulation or response to cholesterol within different breast cancer subtypes. We evaluated differences in side-chain hydroxycholesterol and liver X nuclear
