Aplicación

Protoporphyrin disodium salt (PpIX) was used as a dye content for fluorescence spectroscopic characterization in a study. [1] The cytotoxic effect of PpIX on sarcoma 180 solid tumors cells was reported in a study. [2][3]

5-Aminolevulinic acid (ALA) is a precursor of heme. ALA is used as a photosensitive substance in photodynamic diagnosis (PDD) and photodynamic therapy (PDT) because heme metabolism is abnormal in tumor cells and a photosensitive metabolite of heme synthesis from ALA

Accumulation of protoporphyrin IX (PpIX) in malignant cells is the basis of 5-aminolevulinic acid (ALA)-mediated photodynamic therapy. We studied the expression of proteins that possibly affect ALA-mediated PpIX accumulation, namely oligopeptide transporter-1 and -2, ferrochelatase and ATP-binding cassette transporter G2

Lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced myocardial dysfunction is caused, at least in part, by mitochondrial dysfunction. Mitochondrial dysfunction and the oxidative damage associated with it are scavenged through various cellular defense systems such as autophagy to prevent harmful effects. Our recent study has

Questions

1–2 of 2 Questions
  1. To study interaction of porphyrin with a protein, how should a solution of this compound be made for flourescence quenching?

    1 answer
    1. This is not an application that is tested internally, but there is evidence in literature (Iwunze MO. The fluorescence study of the quenching of nanoemulsion by protoporphyrin IX (PPIX). Material Sci & Eng. 2022;6(3):97‒99. DOI: 10.15406/mseij.2022.06.00185) that concentrations between 6.45 x 10-7 M to 3.24 x 10-6 M PPIX are effective for quenching. Another author describes the quenching of protein fluorescence by PPIX by using a solution concentration range of 1×10−5 M to 3×10−4 M excited at 280 nm and 1x10−5 M to 3×10−4 M excited at 295 nm (Characteristics of the Protoporphyrin IX Binding Sites on Human Serum Albumin Using Molecular Docking, Molecules 2016, 21(11), 1519).

  2. What is the water solubility of PPIX-disodium?

    1 answer
    1. This chemical is known to be soluble in chloroform or methanol and slightly soluble in water. The concentration at which this product is solubilized is not determined.
