Phosphatidylinositol ist ein Phosphoglycerid, das Inositol als Cyclohexanol-Kopfgruppe enthält. Der Phosphatidylinositol-Signalweg wird auch als Doppelsignalweg bezeichnet, da er zwei sekundäre Botenstoffe generiert. Er wird mit einer Reihe physiologischer Prozesse in Pflanzen in Verbindung gebracht. Dazu gehören u. a. die Entstehung von Pollen und Gefäßorganen, Wurzeln und Wurzelhaarwuchs, Hormonreaktion und Stresstoleranz.
