General description

Bromoxylenol blue (BXB) belongs to the sulfonphthalein family. It is also known as 3′,3′′-dibromo-p-xylenol sulfonphthalein.

Application

Bromoxylenol blue is a pH indicator (for pH ranges 6.0-7.6) that is routinely used in acid-base titrations. It is also used for the photometric determination of carboxylic acid impurities in organic liquids and polymers.

Recent applications of bromoxylenol blue include:
  • Building pH sensors
  • Developing optical sensors for high acidity measurements
  • Synthesizing antifungal activity compounds
  • Determination of drugs
  • In fiber-optic biosensors for the determination and detection of pesticides.
