General description

Anti-DNA Polymerase ζ antibody detects endogenous levels of total DNA polymerase ζ protein.

The REV3L (reversionless 3-like) gene is mapped to human chromosome 6q21.[1] It codes for a ~350 kDa protein DNA polymerase ζ which localizes to mitochondria. [2]

The antiserum was produced against synthesized peptide derived from human DNA Polymerase zeta.

Biochem/physiol Actions

REV3L (reversionless 3-like) is predominantly involved in DNA damage response, induced by ultraviolet radiation and chemical damaging agents such as cisplatin.[3][2] The encoded protein DNA Polymerase ζ catalyzes the translesion synthesis (TLS) with less stringent and lower processivity.[4] Loss of gene function is embryonically lethal. Upregulation of REV3L results in spontaneous mutations.[2]
