General description

Chromogenic β-lactamase substrate for both gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria that is comparable to other chromogens (PADAC Substrate and nitrocefin). Hydrolysis of the beta-lactam ring causes a color change from light yellow (λmax: 340 nm) to chrome yellow (λmax: 405 nm). Relatively unaffected by commonly used microbiological media and human serum. Stable in H2O and in the presence of cysteine, mercaptoethanol and dimercaptopropanol.

Please note that the molecular weight for this compound is batch-specific due to variable water content.

Preparation Note

Following reconstitution, aliquot and freeze (-20°C). Stock solutions are stable for up to 3 months at -20°C.

CENTA β-Lactamase Substrate is a chromogenic β-lactamase substrate for both Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria.

description

A chromogenic β-lactamase substrate that undergoes distinctive color change from yellow as the amide bond in the β-lactam ring is hydrolyzed by β-lactamase.

description

Substrate for β-glucuronidase that produces insoluble, intense indigo-blue chromophore (615 nm) after enzymatic hydrolysis.

solubility

soluble (Preparing a Nitrocefin (500 µg/ml) Solution
• Dissolve 1 mg Nitrocefin in 100 µl dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) and vortex.
• Add 1.9 ml phosphate buffer (100 mM, pH 7) to produce 2 ml total volume.
• This yields a working Nitrocefin solution of 500 µg/ml (~1 mM), which is suitable for most applications.
• Nitrocefin, particularly in solution, is very sensitive to light.)
