Tryptic Soy Broth (TSB) with 0.1% Tween®80 is a complex medium designed for the enumeration of total microbial count present in the test sample. Tween®80 is effective against quaternary ammonium compounds, amphoteric surfactants, benzamidines, chlorhexidines, and dequadin. Tween®80 inactivates benzyl alcohol, carbanilides, di-chlorobenzyl alcohols, benzoic acid, p-hydroxybenzoic acid and its esters, phenols, phenylethyl alcohols, and Solbrol (PHB esters). Upon incubation, the enumerated microflora can be plated, isolated, and identified.
