3-Methylphenol, a substituted phenol, is a common water pollutant. It is found to be toxic to fish and aquatic biota, even when present in trace quantities.[1][2]

애플리케이션

2-Methylphenol may be used as an analytical reference standard for the determination of the analyte in petroleum crude oils,[3][4] industrial wastewater[1] and in fish bile[5] by various chromatographic techniques.

3-Methylphenol can be used in the preparation of 3-methylcyclohexanone via hydrogenation reaction in the presence of nickel catalyst.[6] It can also be used in the synthesis of toluene, via hydrogenation in the presence of bimetallic nickel-iron catalyst.[6] It can find applications as a solvent for the ultraviolet-visible light spectral studies of chemically synthesized soluble acrylic acid doped polyaniline.[7]
