Free fatty acid receptor 1 (FFAR1) is activated by binding of medium or long chain free fatty acids. It increases the Ca²⁺ level intracellularly through phospholipase C mediated signalling and that potentially stimulates insulin production. FFAR1 is a potential drug target for metabolic diseases like type 2 diabetes.
