Lutein is an oxygenated derivative of hydrocarbon carotenoids present in dark green and leafy vegetables. It acts as a lipophilic drug (logP 7.8) which is majorly utilized for the prevention of age-related macular degeneration (AMD), cataracts, and other blinding disorders.[1]
