Ras-related protein Rab-8A (RAB8A) is one of two Rab8 isoforms, which belong to the superfamily of GTPases. They cycle between an active GTP-bound state, formed from interaction with guanine nucleotide exchange factors (GEFs) such as Rabin8 and GRAB; and an inactive GDP-bound state via interaction with GTPase activating proteins (GAPs) such as TBC1D1. Rab8A activates various effector molecules, which are coupled to intracellular signaling networks that mediate membrane and vesicular trafficking, and actin remodeling. Rab8A is found in the golgi network, perinuclear region, plasma membrane, lamellipodia, and cilia, among other regions.
