Biochem/physiol Actions

Cysteamine derived from cysteine degradation is the simplest stable aminothiol. Cysteamine is used in the biosynthesis of coenzyme A (CoA). Cysteamine may be useful in studies on oxidative stress and glycation (transglycating agent). Cysteamine is a substrate useful to study the specificity and kinetics of cysteamine (2-aminoethanethiol) dioxygenase(s) (ADO).

Somatostatin-expressing interneurons (SOM-INs) are a major subpopulation of GABAergic cells in CA1 hippocampus that receive excitation from pyramidal cells (PCs), and, in turn, provide feedback inhibition onto PC dendrites. Excitatory synapses onto SOM-INs show a Hebbian long-term potentiation (LTP) mediated

Fluorescence live-cell and super-resolution microscopy methods have considerably advanced our understanding of the dynamics and mesoscale organization of macro-molecular complexes that drive cellular functions. However, different imaging techniques can provide quite disparate information about protein motion and organization, owing to

BRCA2 controls RAD51 recombinase during homologous DNA recombination (HDR) through eight evolutionarily conserved BRC repeats, which individually engage RAD51 via the motif Phe-x-x-Ala. Using structure-guided molecular design, templated on a monomeric thermostable chimera between human RAD51 and archaeal RadA, we

The BCL-2 family is composed of anti- and pro-apoptotic members that respectively protect or disrupt mitochondrial integrity. Anti-apoptotic overexpression can promote oncogenesis by trapping the BCL-2 homology 3 (BH3) "killer domains" of pro-apoptotic proteins in a surface groove, blocking apoptosis.
