Cell Line Origin
B-lymphoblastoid, EBV-transformed
Cell Line Description
B95a is a derivative of the cell line B95-8 and was adapted to growth in adherence to the substrate surface. The parent line B95-8 was derived from a cotton-top tamarin (Saguinas oedipus). The B-lymphoblastoid cells are transformed with Epstein-Barr virus (EBV). B95a has been reported to be 10,000-fold more sensitive to measles virus present in clinical specimens than Vero cells and are useful host cells for the isolation of measles virus.
Culture Medium
DMEM (D6546) + 2 mM L-Glutamine (G7513) + 5% FBS / FCS (F2442) (for growth medium) or 2% FBS / FCS (F2442) (for maintenance medium).
Subculture Routine
Split sub-confluent cultures (70-80%) 1:3 every 3-4 days using 0.25% trypsin or trypsin/EDTA; 5% CO2; 37 °C; cells grow initially as a monolayer, but will pile up and detach in maintenance medium.
Other Notes
Cultures from HPA Culture Collections and supplied by Sigma are for research purposes only. Enquiries regarding the commercial use of a cell line are referred to the depositor of the cell line. Some cell lines have additional special release conditions such as the requirement for a material transfer agreement to be completed by the potential recipient prior to the supply of the cell line. Please view the Terms & Conditions of Supply for more information.
