General description

Yellow mercuric oxide shows antibacterial property and is commonly used in ophthalmic ointments.[1][2]

Application

Yellow mercuric oxide in the presence of mercuric bromide catalyst may be used in the preparation of alkyl β-D-glucopyranoside tetra-O-acetates and tetra-O-benzoates from poly-O-acyl-α-D-glucopyranosyl bromides and different alcohols via Koenigs-Knorr syntheses.[2]
