suitability
nonselective for Lactococcus spp. nonselective for Streptococcus spp.
Application
M-17 Agar media is proposed for the cultivation, detection and enumeration of Iactic streptococci in milk and dairy products. The M-17 media are superior to other comparable culture media for the cultivation of the fastidious species Streptococcus cremoris, Streptococcus diacetilactis and Streptococcus Iactis. It is also suitable for cultivation and maintenance of starter cultures for cheese and yogurt manufacturing. This medium helps in detecting streptococcal mutants which are lactose non-fermenters. M-17 Agar media may also be used for the differentiation of bacteriophages infecting lactic streptococci.
Preparation Note
Dissolve 50 g in 950 ml distilled water and sterilize by autoclaving at 121°C for 15 minutes. After cooling add 50 ml aseptic 10% lactose solution.
Footnote
We offer two media types: the superior granulated GranuCult® and the cost-efficient powdered NutriSelect® culture media, depending on your needs. The designations basic, plus, or prime are added to indicate the quality control level, from basic quality control to standard QC plus to prime for full regulatory compliance.

To assess the relative merits of tryptone yeast extract agar, the same medium unbuffered, and medium M17 for the assay of nine bacteriophages of lactic streptococci, comparative plaque counts were made with an overlay of 3 or 9 ml. Four
Propionibacterium thoenii P-127 produces and releases to the growth medium antibacterial agents that can be used as natural preservatives. The concentrations of these antibacterial agents in the growth medium are very low, and their activity can be detected only in
This study used a combination of phenotypic, physical (Fourier Transformed Infra-Red [FTIR] spectroscopy) and molecular (RFLP and SSCP analysis of 16S rRNA genes) methods to identify the lactic acid bacteria (LAB) flora present in traditional Greek Graviera cheese after five
The object of the current study was to develop a new process for continuous Feta-type cheese production using a biocatalyst consisting of immobilized rennin on a tubular cellulose/starch gel (TC/SG) composite, which has been proven to be an appropriate carrier
