General description

TopFluor is dipyrrometheneboron difluoride undecanoic acid, used for labelling lipids. Fluorescent lipids find its application in live imaging in animal model and in cell culture. TopFluor is a green variant of boron-dipyrromethene (BODIPY) (a fluorescent tag for lipids). TopFluor compared to BODIPY, possesses two additional methyl groups and the lipid conjugate is bonded to carbon 1 of its central ring. It forms a T-shaped molecule in contrast to the linear molecule formed by BODIPY FL- fatty acids FAs).
