Reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization is used to produce narrow polydispersity polymers of complex architecture. 3,5-Bis(2-dodecylthiocarbonothioylthio-1-oxopropoxy)benzoic acid is a carboxylic acid functionalised trithiocarbonate RAFT agent. [1] It is used to form well-defined block copolymers. They have good control of polymerisation for a wide range of vinyl monomers.[2]

Application

Used in the synthesis of macro-Chain Transfer Agent (CTA) which are used in the RAFT polymerisation of vinylic monomers like styrene, acrylate and acrylamide.[3][4]
