Biochem/physiol Actions

Beta-glucuronidase is anenzyme present in several animals, plants, and bacteria. It catalyzes thehydrolysis of Beta-glucuronide conjugates and plant glucuronides.Beta-glucuronidase is a member of the glycosyl hydrolases (GHs) family 2 and is ahomo-tetrameric glycoprotein. It facilitates the removal of glucuronic acidsfrom glucuronides and aids in the liver metabolism enzymes for the excretion ofendo- and xeno-biotics.

Unit Definition

One Sigma or modified Fishman unit will liberate 1.0 μg of phenolphthalein from phenolphthalein glucuronide per hr at 37 °C at pH 3.8 (30 min assay).
