Altre note

Beta-catenin plays an integral role in the Wnt signaling pathway and is critical to morphogenic signaling and body axis specification. Beta-catenin exists in complexes with cadherins, transmembrane proteins that mediate cell adhesion. When Wnt-signaling proteins bind their receptors, beta-catenin is stabilized and accumulates in the cell. Translocation of stabilized beta-catenin allows its association with transcription factors and the activation of specific gene expression.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) control the expression of diverse subsets of target mRNAs, and studies have found miRNA dysregulation in failing hearts. Expression of miR-29 is abundant in heart, increases with aging, and is altered in cardiomyopathies. Prior studies demonstrate that miR-29

Understanding how patterning influences cell behaviors to generate three dimensional morphologies is a central goal of developmental biology. Additionally, comparing these regulatory mechanisms among morphologically diverse tissues allows for rigorous testing of evolutionary hypotheses. Zebrafish skin is endowed with a

The genetic bases for the congenital disorders of glycosylation (CDG) continue to expand, but how glycosylation defects cause patient phenotypes remains largely unknown.
