The Human Protein Atlas project can be subdivided into three efforts: Human Tissue Atlas, Cancer Atlas, and Human Cell Atlas. Protein disulfide isomerase family A, member 4 (PDIA4) is referred to as ERP70, ERP72 and ERp-72. It consists of three active site sequences characteristic of protein disulfide isomerase. The gene is involved in the signal transduction pathway for priming human neutrophils. Inactivation of this gene results in activation of a classical mitochondrial apoptosis pathway. Overexpression of this protein is found in lungs of adenocarcinoma patients. It is associated with Nox1 functionally thereby regulating redox-sensitive signalling pathways in a cellular context.
