Aplicación

Palmitic acid has been used:
  • as a medium supplement in chorionic villous tissue culture form placenta[1]
  • as a component of hormone pellet for implantation in mice ovary[2]
  • for inducing expression of immunity-related GTPase M (IRGM) in human monocytic cell line, THP-1[3]

Acciones bioquímicas o fisiológicas

Palmitic acid (PA) is a component of membrane phospholipids (PL) and adipose triacylglycerols (TAG).[4] Elevated levels of palmitic acid contributes to the pathophysiology of atherosclerosis, type 2 diabetes mellitus, neurodegenerative diseases, obesity and cancer.[4][5] PA promotes apoptosis in the endothelial cell by modulating the p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) pathway and favors expression of TNF-α and reactive oxygen species accumulation.[6] PA promotes interleukin 8 (IL-8) synthesis in hepatocytes contributing to hepatic inflammation.[7] PA by interacting with toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) induces inflammatory injury in cardiomyoctes.[8]
Palmitic acid is a straight-chain 16-carbon fatty acid. Diets rich in palmitic acid, along with lauric and myristic acids, are associated with increased serum levels of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol. Palmitic acid is the first fatty acid produced by lipogenesis. It is a negative regulator of acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACC) and is implicated in fatty acid-induced insulin resistance.

Questions

1–6 of 6 Questions
  1. I want to know the storage temperature after reconstituting the product in the solvent? Also clarify regarding the type of solvent to be used?

    1 answer
    1. Unfortunately, the stability of this product in solution is not determined.

      Helpful?

  2. How can I determine the shelf life / expiration / retest date of this product?

    1 answer
    1. If this product has an expiration or retest date, it will be shown on the Certificate of Analysis (COA, CofA). If there is no retest or expiration date listed on the product's COA, we do not have suitable stability data to determine a shelf life. For these products, the only date on the COA will be the release date; a retest, expiration, or use-by-date will not be displayed.
For all products, we recommend handling per defined conditions as printed in our product literature and website product descriptions. We recommend that products should be routinely inspected by customers to ensure they perform as expected.
For products without retest or expiration dates, our standard warranty of 1 year from the date of shipment is applicable.
For more information, please refer to the Product Dating Information document: https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/deepweb/assets/sigmaaldrich/marketing/global/documents/449/386/product-dating-information-mk.pdf

  3. How is shipping temperature determined? And how is it related to the product storage temperature?

    1 answer
    1. Products may be shipped at a different temperature than the recommended long-term storage temperature. If the product quality is sensitive to short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped on wet or dry-ice. If the product quality is NOT affected by short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped at ambient temperature. As shipping routes are configured for minimum transit times, shipping at ambient temperature helps control shipping costs for our customers. For more information, please refer to the Storage and Transport Conditions document: https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/deepweb/assets/sigmaaldrich/marketing/global/documents/316/622/storage-transport-conditions-mk.pdf

      Helpful?

  4. I am curious about the storage temperature of this product.

    1 answer
    1. As listed in the PROPERTIES section of the product page, this product may be stored at room temperature.

      Helpful?

  5. Can you tell me the storage temperature for this product?

    1 answer
    1. As stated in the PROPERTIES section of the product page, this product is stored at room temperature.

      Helpful?

  6. Is this product soluble only in chloroform? Did you know something about its solubility in ethanol or DMSO?

    1 answer
    1. Stock solutions of palmitic acid can be prepared in 200 proof ethanol or DMSO at 20 mg/mL. Stock solutions should be purged with inert gas, such as argon or nitrogen, prior to storage.
