Urethane is used as an anesthetic in animals, since it shows minimal effects on cardiovascular and respiratory systems and maintenance of spinal reflexes.[1] It can also be used in the synthesis of poly(urethane urea) segmented block, which can find applications as blood sacs in ventricular assist devices and total artificial hearts.[2]
