一般描述

FAM117B (family with sequence similarity 117, member B) gene is also called as ALS2CR13 (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis 2 chromosome region, candidate 13). The gene is a transcriptional unit on ALS2 gene that spans a length of 3 Mb and is mapped to human chromosome 2q33. ALS2 is expressed mainly in the neurons and spinal cord and the encoded protein contains multiple domains.

生化/生理作用

The ALS2 candidate interval contains 42 nonoverlapping transcripts, of which ALS2CR13 is a transcriptional unit. The gene encodes a putative GTPase regulator. Mutations in the region of ALS2 may cause amyotrophic lateral sclerosis 2, a neurodegenerative disorder that is characterized by a loss of upper motor neurons in the brain and spasticity of limb and feet.
