General description

Tetrahydrofuran (THF) is a saturated cyclic ether with a potential use as a biofuel. Its combustion studies have been investigated.[1] Reports suggest that it is a better promoter than 1,3 dioxolane for CO2-hydrate formation.[2]

Application

Tetrahydrofuran was used as a solvent in the formation of diacetylinic polymers.[3]
It may be used in the following processes:
  • Formation of butyrolactone (BTL) by green oxidation method.[4]
  • Aqueous THF solution to modify the polystyrene surface by swelling process.[5]
  • As a solvent for lignin depolymerization to isolate phenolic monomer.[6]

Pure-Pac® II containers require the Micromatic MacroValve coupler for dispensing solvents, Z560723.

Questions

1–7 of 7 Questions
  1. Is this product (401757-1L) considered UPLC grade THF (without inhibiter)?

    1 answer
    1. No, this product is not considered to be a UPLC grade. The purity is determined by GC.

  2. How is shipping temperature determined? And how is it related to the product storage temperature?

    1 answer
    1. Products may be shipped at a different temperature than the recommended long-term storage temperature. If the product quality is sensitive to short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped on wet or dry-ice. If the product quality is NOT affected by short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped at ambient temperature. As shipping routes are configured for minimum transit times, shipping at ambient temperature helps control shipping costs for our customers. For more information, please refer to the Storage and Transport Conditions document: https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/deepweb/assets/sigmaaldrich/marketing/global/documents/316/622/storage-transport-conditions-mk.pdf

  3. How can I determine the shelf life / expiration / retest date of this product?

    1 answer
    1. If this product has an expiration or retest date, it will be shown on the Certificate of Analysis (COA, CofA). If there is no retest or expiration date listed on the product's COA, we do not have suitable stability data to determine a shelf life. For these products, the only date on the COA will be the release date; a retest, expiration, or use-by-date will not be displayed.
For all products, we recommend handling per defined conditions as printed in our product literature and website product descriptions. We recommend that products should be routinely inspected by customers to ensure they perform as expected.
For products without retest or expiration dates, our standard warranty of 1 year from the date of shipment is applicable.

  4. Are the products 227056-1L N,N-Dimethylformamide and 401757-1L Tetrahydrofuran come with a SureSeal Cap?

    1 answer
    1. Yes, according to the material BOM. 401757-1L is 10mm and 227056-1L is 5mm

      Helpful?

  5. What is the material of the Sure/Seal septum? Does it contain silicon? Is there a risk of parts of it falling into the product?

    1 answer
    1. The Sure/Seal septum is made of a robust, proprietary elastomer that does not allow any particulates to contaminate the product contents. For frequent access , it is recommended to puncture the septum in a square pattern around the border of the hole cap. This pattern may be gradually reduced until reaching the center of the septum.

  6. Which type of syringes or needles do you recommend for extracting products from a Sure/Seal bottle?

    1 answer
    1. Products packaged in Sure/Seal bottles may be accessed using a non-coring needle of an 18 or lower gauge. This item is an 18 gauge, 12 inch needle with a slightly curved tip to prevent coring.
