General description

6-Acetylmorphine, also known as 6-monoacetylmorphine or 6-MAM, is an active metabolite of heroin and biomarker for heroin usage. This Certified Spiking Solution® is suitable for use as a starting material in calibrators and controls for GC/MS or LC/MS methods in forensic analysis, clinical toxicology, urine drug testing, or pain prescription monitoring.

Application

  • Drug use monitoring: The utility of 6-acetylmorphine as a specific biomarker in workplace drug testing for identifying illicit heroin use among morphine-positive urine specimens was highlighted, affirming its importance in forensic and clinical toxicology (Vikingsson et al., 2024).

  • Physiological monitoring technology: The detection of 6-acetylmorphine in sweat at the molecular level demonstrates the potential of the wearable SERS sensor in monitoring drug use (Liu et al., 2024).

  • Drug effect attenuation research: A bivalent conjugate vaccine inducing dual immunogenic responses was studied to attenuate the effects of heroin and fentanyl in mice, utilizing 6-acetylmorphine as a component, demonstrating its potential in therapeutic developments (Barrientos et al., 2021).

  • Behavioral toxicology: The determination of drugs of abuse in hair samples using LC-MS/MS, which included 6-acetylmorphine, provided vital data for investigations related to suicide attempts, highlighting its utility in clinical and forensic toxicology (Cardoso et al., 2022).
