Description générale

Cannabinoid receptor 2 (CNR2) is encoded by the gene mapped to human chromosome 1p36.11. The encoded protein belongs to a novel cadherin-related multigene family. Members of this family contain six cadherin repeats and conserved DXNDNXPXF and DXD motifs with constitute putative calcium-binding sequences.
The cannabinoid delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol is the principal psychoactive ingredient of marijuana. The proteins encoded by this gene and the cannabinoid receptor 1 (brain) (CNR1) gene have the characteristics of a guanine nucleotide-binding protein (G-protein)-coupled receptor for cannabinoids. They inhibit adenylate cyclase activity in a dose-dependent, stereoselective, and pertussis toxin-sensitive manner. These proteins have been found to be involved in the cannabinoid-induced CNS effects (including alterations in mood and cognition) experienced by users of marijuana. The cannabinoid receptors are members of family 1 of the G-protein-coupled receptors. (provided by RefSeq)

Application

Monoclonal Anti-CNR2 antibody produced in mouse has been used in western blot analysis.

Actions biochimiques/physiologiques

Cannabinoid receptor 2 (CNR2) plays a crucial role in mediating anti-inflammatory and anti-atherosclerotic effects in vivo. It is also involved in cancer, bone metabolism and pain perception. CNR2 might be implicated in selective cell–cell interaction. Mutations in the gene has been associated with trochanter and hip bone mineral density (BMD).
